The company specialises in cryogenics, process engineering and new product development. The combination of engineering analysis and experience brings innovative and cost effective designs into reality to deliver cooling solutions from room temperature down to 1.5 K.
The skills encompass a broad range of technologies from helium liquefiers to liquid nitrogen, from cryocoolers to dilution refrigerators. This can be used to separate mixtures by cryogenic condensation either for pollution abatement or species purification. Liquid helium cooled systems have been used for superconducting RF cavities on particle accelerators and superconducting magnets.
Charles is the principal technologist of the company. He graduated from Cambridge in 1984 with a degree in engineering and, having started work in the cryogenics sector, has over 35 years of relevant experience. He has a proven track record of innovation and a reputation as an expert in cryogenics including a number of publications to his name. He has given lectures in the UK, mainland Europe, the USA and China and is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Monroe Brothers Ltd was re-started as an engineering consultancy in 1996 by Charles Monroe following his return to the UK after working as an engineer in Italy. Before this the company had a history in ship-owning and ship managing from 1920 to 1992. If you would like to know more about the earlier history …
